After parking by the lochside, we took the Mountain Trail (see hyperlink below) up through natural pinewoods to the base of a series of quartzite crags. From there the trail, marked by cairns, took a winding route up, first on the side of a gully, over a series of rocky terraces. Some simple scrambling moves were required to make progress. Higher up, care was needed to avoid iced-over sections on the path. We eventually reached the large cairn on the summit, with its stunning vista into the heart of the Beinn Eighe massif. We returned the same way, to avoid possibly treacherous ice conditions on the descent route down the gorge of the Allt na h-Airige. A careful steep descent brought us safely back to the car without incident.
With ALT, on a cold day of weak sunshine, with a chilly south-east wind.
