I met the great great grandson of Masaku. The region is called machakos after Masaku, who was a kamba chief. The history of Machakos Town dates back to 1889 when the Imperial British East Africa Company (IBEA), the predecessor of the British Colonial Authority in Kenya established their first upcountry capital and centre of operation in Machakos Town. The Whiteman named Machakos Town after the leader/chief Masaku who welcomed them to Machakos.
