On my way up to Alaska Mountain (see separate trip report), I did an interesting bushwhack up to Kendall Knob #2. I wanted to see if it's faster to go straight up, rather than take the long, slow PCT. In short, it's not really faster, about 2 hours either way. But it was an interesting route, nonetheless. From the PCT at the sharp corner at 3230 ft, I went up (NE) to 4000 ft where I found a very old logging road. Going SE on that road a little ways brought me to the corner, where I could go straight up again at a somewhat shallower slope to the knob at about 4700 ft. From there, follow the ridge NW to a corner, then NE for a bit to rejoin the PCT. Going through the woods is OK, a bit steep but not too thick. Once it opens up with the old roads, the views are good.
