"15/100 🏔 日本百名山 🇯🇵 Nihon Hyaku-meizan
Ultra-prominent peak #57 🌋🗻⛰
Akadake (P6k) -> Yokodake -> Ioudake -> Neishdake -> Tengudake, Higashi mine -> Tengudake, Nishi mine (Nihyaku-meizan #17/200)
Yatsugatake more appropriately refers to the mountain range while Akadake is the range high point. Did this as a point to point with my friend Jon Rogozen, who moved to Tokyo earlier this summer. We had the advantage of having cell phone service and my wife down in Hara with a car. This allowed us to easily arrange our pick up. We started a kilometer beyond Yatsugatake Sanso. My mother-in-laws car could not complete the drive to the Minoto Lodge. We exited at Kosen Karasawa Yatsugatake. Absolutely beautiful hike!" — seancasserly • Aug 25, 2022

Mount Mizugaki (2250m). Yamanashi (Japan)
Saturday was again climbing day. This time I have selected Mount Mizugaki, a mountain that has charmed me lately and not only for its unique rock formations on the summit but perhaps also because from there I could have a good look at my next big mountain/challenge that I will climb hopefully this coming Friday: The majestic Mount Kinpu (2599m). But, as mentioned, this Saturday was all for my beloved Mount Mizugaki. I started from Mizugaki Sansou, a remote mountain place accessible by bus from Nirasaki station (Yamanashi). Winter has come up here...and being 2250 meters high, Mizugaki, I thought could have offered me few problems about ice and certainly freezing wind. Crampons may have been necessary...The first part of today`s climb was to reach Fujimidairakoya from where the steep trail to Mizugaki would have started. This was my third 百名山 and turned to be, so far, the most technical one having various exposed passages with fixed chains. The final part was really steep and the Summit was reached after 2.5 hours. Was freezing cold and windy with a temperature of -4 but blue sky. I climbed alone, as usual, but met with few other c..." — lucagalileo • Nov 15, 2014
"After a hard climb up Fuji, the family and I decided to tackle the second highest climb in Japan. What we did know is the second highest climb is also allot harder then then Fuji. After a long bus ride to the base of the mountain. We started our journey. We cross over a long suspension bridge. We started the climb up. The trail run a long finger that seams to go on forever, the lower half of the climb you are climbing in a forest. You have to step on roots to climb over the trails. The local club has done a great job adding log steps on sections that are to hard to climb with out a knotted rope to pull you self up. The day was nice till about 4pm then the weather started setting in. We got to the first cabin around 7 pm it was dark and raining. The camp fee was ¥500 the cabin had a place for a bathroom and sever dinner. I set my tent up on the highest ground that I could find. After we got all the gear inside the tent I set up the stove and started cooking dinner.
The tent that I am carrying is a Sierra Design Omega CD 2 man 4 season tent that weight 6 pounds. I had my wife and my teenager in this tent. We were cramped. Now I know what company's mean by three person for emerge..." — Bear • Sep 1, 2014
