"Finally! Had been pegged at 30/31 for years in the BA Classics Challenge. Was time to fix that. Ran the downs and the modest climbs but seriously, the Hobbs “Shortcut” aka The Hobbs Wall crushed me. Unrunnable. After that my legs were cooked but kept running all the way to Poverty Flat (with side hits of Sizer and Jackass Peak). Then my stride shortened and I got pummeled by the climb out of Poverty Flat. Hobbled back to the visitors center on spent legs. Yet again humbled by the immensity of Henry Coe. This place is ridiculous. " — scott • Oct 3, 2025
"It was kind of a drab, overcast/cloudy day, but I got a few decent photos. The Shortcut trail up Hobbs Road lives up to its reputation as one of the hardest trails in the Bay Area. My recommendation would be to do the four-peak loop at Mount Diablo if you're looking for a hard hike in the Bay Area. It's prettier and more fun, and roughly the same overall difficulty. I'll probably return to Mt Sizer, but it's not my favorite hard hike." — sareine • May 31, 2020
