"From the hairpin on the road, a straightforward walk past the sanctuary. Good views of this most western point of the island. Saw shrubs that looked like lavender, well the stems did, but with more fern-like leaves. Turns out this is wormwood, used to make absinth!" — vygodski • Nov 21, 2024
"From Piano Battaglia in the south, short descent then steady climb ENE, through some copses with low trees, then curling West around Pizzo Antenna. From here see the first views of Etna, the upper reaches of which were covered in snow. Last section slightly steeper and one false summit before reaching the windy top, with summit book. Visited Pizzo Palermo, returned to this, then descended via Pizzo Scalonazzo. See those logs.
Odd weather, windy, sunny, not sure if hot or cold. Pleasant and straightforward enough." — vygodski • Nov 18, 2024
"From Carbonara, leaving my companion AB to take the victory photo, descended into the sella, which has quite a steep drop on the east side at one point, then climbed this. Ankle-twisting size rocks with no real discernible path, but it was a straight line. Came across some interesting rocks that had a mottled, scale-like surface that on closer inspection were made up of strange compacted tube like structures. I think it may have been coral fossils, but not sure. After Palermo, returned to Carbonara by same route. " — vygodski • Nov 18, 2024
"On Carbonara after Palermo I ummed and aahed as to whether to go up Pizzo Antenna and return the same route to start point, or do this and go back a different route. Opted for the latter. Difficult underfoot with the bowling ball size rubble of rocks, which meant you needed to keep your eye on the ground (difficult with clear skies and stunning views). I saw two deer, which had chocolate brown coats, that were frightened of me though I meant them no harm. I'd assumed this would be straightforward along the ridge, but there was a drop before it and the going looked a little gnarly, so I walked to the sella with Peak 1922, then went straight up, which involved something like 30 metres of scramble. At the top I saw a pair of eagles soaring on the thermals. Walking south a bit I rejoined the path (which would have made for an easier ascent), then along this made my way down to the road to the south (much nicer than walking on the scree), and walked east to rejoin the car at Piano Battaglia." — vygodski • Nov 18, 2024
"While staying in Palermo with the Mein Schiff 3 I took the opportunity to climb this Mountain in the Afternoon heat of Sicily. My first Hike in a Month and glad I got out today. " — Nuernberger • Oct 28, 2014
