"This is the second time I climbed Mweelrea. We did the whole horseshoe starting from and finishing in Delphi. The visibility was poor most of the time but by the time we climbed Mweelrea we finally got the views. To me this is one of the most beautiful hikes in Ireland. " — hannahaapio • Jun 19, 2022
"Parking in the large car park in Murrisk (fee 2 euros), we took the standard route up by the heavily eroded pilgrim trail to the col west of Taobh na Cruaich. Then over a minor top, before the hard slog up the steep east flank of the mountain over quarzite boulders and scree. We reached the chapel on the summit just before it was again wreathed in cloud. We returned by our outward route, but I detoured up to the summit of Taobh na Cruaich 487m/41m to gain a better view of Cruach Phadraig. With BC, RP and DB. Sunshine and cloud, with a fierce westerly wind." — marktrengove2 • Oct 7, 2019
"Staying at Cleggan. Solo. Attempt at Mweelrea, Ben Bury and Ben Lugmore. Started by using forest tracks from Delphi Resort. These provide an easy way through the forested way on the approach from the SW. At the end of the mature forest was tempted to follow a newly gouged out track and then head towards the SE Spur of Mweelrea. Not a good choice as the land is full of tussocks obscured by much vegetation making progress slow. Much better progress up the steepish slopes to the summit of Mweelrea SE Spur. By now thick mist descended on the tops so I retreated. Found a better route for the return, keeping close to Sruhaunbunatrench before joining the forest tracks back to Delphi Resort." — peter43 • Jul 8, 2017
"Staying on Achill Island. Solo. Drove up the road to Lough Acorrymore and found it possible to park at a high point towards the end of the road. There is another parking point a little further on as well as the possibility of parking at the dam. I walked up to the plateau at 474m. The mist descended as I went diagonally up the hillside to reach the col between Croaghaun and Croaghaun SW Top. Ascended to the cairn on Croaghaun and the rock 8m SW of cairn which is the highest point according to DBIH. Back to the col and up to the summit of Croaghaun SW Top. Back to the col and descent more or less following the ascent route back to car. The corries above Lough Acorrymore are impressive as are the sea cliffs ( so far as I could see them! )." — peter43 • Jul 5, 2017
