"Traverse of the DP-4, Plateau to Indian Head, with Mimi. She needed it in order to complete one grid of this peak combo on Hikers Anonymous(Ha!). After meeting in Prediger road PA she drove us over to the Mink Hollow PA to start our Devils Path journey. A rather cool(low 40’s) damp day requiring some layers after a beautiful day yesterday at home( 80*). We got treated to very fine wet snow at the higher elevations in the morning hours. The sun spent most of the day hiding behind clouds and only occasionally teased us with its warmth.
There were a few others out, most doing one or two peaks out of the four, and one young women being a showoff(!). She wore only running shorts with a long sleeve top who managed to pass the two of us numerous times. She basically did the traverse we did in the same direction but added more mileage and ellie gain. Once she hit Indian Head she continued on the DP dropping down near Prediger road to pick up the Jimmy Dolan trail in order to return to the DP. The last time we saw her she heading back up Twin then onto Sugarloaf in order to return to her car at Mink Hollow. She was of course speed hiking/running the whole time, groaning about the exertio..." — Nimblefoot • Nov 2, 2024
"Solo hike of the DP-4 in two separate hikes. The first out of Prediger road TH visiting Twin then Indian Head on an early chilly day(30*). The Devils Path heading up to Indian Head from Jimmy Dolan Notch had small spots of ice and some lingering snow from the previous day. On my descent even rocks with frost, that I couldn’t see, were slippery if wasn’t careful with each foot placement. On my way in and out I got to appreciate the recent rock work done on the Jimmy Dolan Notch trail that has been one of the worst trails for years.
The second hike out of Mink Hollow(north), not an official “State” trailhead, to visit Plateau and Sugarloaf. The day hasn’t warmed up enough to switch to shorts so the long pants stayed on unfortunately. As per usual I hike the peaks opposite of peak bagging norm by doing the lower ones first and working up to higher/steeper ones later. I used an old woods road, just above the PA, as a shortcut toward Plateau but I got anxious to whack up to the Devils Path too early and did more scrambling/side hilling than necessary. The steep climb up and descent took a toll on my knees luckily the climb up Sugarloaf is a little easier and the round trip went quick..." — Nimblefoot • Oct 17, 2024
"Janice, Rebecca and I joined Tom R for an enjoyable hike of the DP-4 from Mink Hollow to Prediger road.
We were fortunate to meet a gentleman on Plateau who was backpacking the Long Path and raising money for Cancer patients in the process. He was quite adamant that the monies were for Patient needs like Uber rides, overnight stays and such rather than medical equipment( very smart and necessary).
At the other end of our hike on the ever popular Jimmy Dolan Notch trail we met some folks from Tahawas Trails doing some nice work, stepping stones, drainage, trail hardening etc that is way over due." — Nimblefoot • Jul 3, 2024
"Solo hike of the four eastern peaks of the Devils Path in two separate hikes. Indian Head and Twin from Prediger road TH in the AM, quick lunch , then over to Mink Hollow to do Plateau and Sugarloaf. Passing rain shower just prior to leaving Mink Hollow then two more on my climb of Plateau cooling me off especially with the added breeze.

"Devils Path Traverse East-to-West, with bonus miles up Hunter and SW Hunter, today June 8th. Azaleas in bloom along the eastern half of the range added a splash of color to the morning. A big, stoic bear lingered around Mink Hollow when we passed through. There’s great, flowing water just west of Mink Hollow at 42.13846, -74.16486, but this is the only reliable water on the eastern ridge until the spigot at Stony Clove Notch. The trail west of Stony passes many running sources right now, so no refill worries on that side. Hunter and SW Hunter were lively in the afternoon, so we didn’t linger. Mud was mostly minimal along the trail save for the regular culprit spots, like between Devils Acre and Geiger Point, and navigating these mini bogs was straightforward. Bugs were minimal until late afternoon when winds subsided, and the late-day feasters were largely of the mosquitoe variety. Nettles added a little extra discomfort to the trail, and they were particularly bad hiking out of stony clove towards Devils Acre. In general the trail seemed a bit brushier than usual throughout. Tick hitchhikers are a real concern right now. Check those crevices when you’re done with your hikes! 👀" — wacbravo • Jun 8, 2024
"Hiked the DP-4 in two parts. Twin and Indian Head from Prediger road then drive over to Mink Hollow(North) for a bit slower climb of Plateau then finishing with Sugarloaf to fully punish the legs.
Overcast all day with occasional treats of sunshine and blue sky briefly only to return to full cloud cover. At least no rain fell.

"Six of us did the classic DP-4 from Mink Hollow to Prediger road. Ironically five of our friends were doing the same hike so we became a group of 11. Enough ice to warrant use of micro spikes but nothing overly serious. Chilly day with some wind kept us moving. " — Nimblefoot • Mar 22, 2024
"Second mountain of the day with Maryellen, Tina, and Chris on a mild winter day. Used crampons to get over rivers of ice. Glad we weren’t going back down! Took the long way down sketchy cliffs as part of all trails challenge. Trail never seemed to end! " — lfrancois • Mar 3, 2024
"To finish the year 8 of us hiked the four peaks on the eastern end of the Devils Path(DP-4) for Rebecca to close out her December on her first Catskill grid. This would leave only January and February to finish before her finale in March. In her early 70’s she is quite frisky physically and has a wonderful let’s do this attitude.
The trail is mostly clear of snow and ice but there is enough icy patches warranting the carrying of the micro spikes. The summit of Plateau looked wintry with a recent dusting of snow on the ground and in the trees, like a scene from a holiday greeting card. The other three peaks looked as if we were still in late fall with barely any snow and the occasional wet spot with recent temps still hitting the low to upper 40’s." — Nimblefoot • Dec 31, 2023
"Solo hike of Indian Head and Twin in T-bone fashion from Prediger road. With a late start of 10 am meant I had to skip a second hike to visit Sugarloaf and Plateau to complete the DP-4. Ice at the higher elevations caused the micro spikes to come out and play as hopping from rock to rock wasn’t cutting it. These peaks completed my 40th 3-season round." — Nimblefoot • Nov 30, 2023
