"Great Day Outdoors today although it was not the Peak I wanted to climb for today. Something went wrong and I ended up on Independence Peak instead of Mount Stirling which was my indented Target for today. Never mind as it gives me another Day to go back to the Area. Not very often visited as you can see on my Picture, I am only the 3rd Party up there since beginning of 2012. " — Nuernberger • Jan 3, 2015
"I had a free day & hadn't climbed Independence Peak & Cone Peak yet, so I sent my friend Paul a message to see if he was interested in going this morning. He was, so we made our way out to the middle of nowhere to start our hike. We parked where it appeared that the road was completely washed out, not realizing that the Jeep could've driven about a mile or so further to the end of the road. Oh well, we came out here to hike, didn't we? Went straight up the face of Independence Peak. It didn't seem like as much elevation gain as it actually was. We enjoyed the views & a little lunch up there before heading down & back up to Cone Peak. This one was a lot easier than it looked. From Cone Peak, we descended the way we came up, found the road & hiked back to the Jeep. Fun day! " — Kevin • Jun 20, 2013
"Added for context. This trip was in 2010, before these peaks had names CP (the guidebook author) wanted some place obscure. We came through the road toward Timber Springs, which back then, was pretty awful for a mile where it wound through washes full of gravel and low conifers. No cairn or register back then, no evidence of previous visitation. I think the spot check elevations were purely from aerial photogrammetry. The later-named "Independence Peak" has at most 160' of prominence. The interconnecting ridge is rough and wild." — hwstock • Jun 10, 2010
