"We landed at Keflavik and drove to our Airbnb in Hafnarfjordur, then decided after 2 pm to drive over to and hike up Esja. It won’t be that hard, I thought; it’s not even 1,000 meters and we hike peaks close to 2,000 meters every year in North Carolina. However, it was raining lightly and windy the entire hike and we were both jet-lagged. We went up about 3 km and decided to turn around. My wife was feeling miserable and mad at me for pushing onward. She had broken her foot a year ago but it was hurting now. She made the right call. Loved the dramatic scenery.
