"Jay, Dan, and Adam. Up from Big Crow Trailhead/O'Toole. Started w snowshoes, but didn't need them, so switched to spikes. Extraordinarily warm day for mid December. No wind. Wore just a thermal shirt on the summit. Lots of sun. Checked out Gulf Brook lean-to on descent," — ndru-virus • Dec 16, 2023
"We took the south trail from 9N for 7 miles, 2000 feet of enervation gain. A fairly gentle trail for the first 3 miles with steady ascent, the last quarter mile becomes a steep rock scramble but it was very manageable on such a dry sunny day. There’s an awesome overlook almost all the way up with incredible views, but the summit’s 360 degree views of the high peaks is incomparable! By far the most beautiful mountain we’ve hiked so far!" — EmilyDoucet729 • Sep 30, 2023
"Amazing fall hike with Bailey the Hiking Pup. Windy and lived up to it's name! Loved the flat section, lookouts and top. A new ADK favorite for fall!! Great hike for an LP9 finisher!," — Mousetek • Oct 15, 2022
"When all else fails, regroup and replan! A chance to show off the beauty of the Adirondacks with friends from our local hiking group and what an adventure we had climbing a 3687ft w/2000ft of elevation gain, Hurricane Mountain in Keene N.Y. Lots of ice near the rocky summit made micro spikes a must as a few had to turn around from poor planning and safety concerns. Very windy at the top of the tower which made the hike even more epic, Great day with Darwin Smith and Heather McDiarmid doing what we love. Hike on!" — ramjet1963 • Apr 15, 2022
"Tim, Black and I left the trailhead with clear skies, cold winds @ 12 degrees. Trail was in perfect shape in snowshoes all the way to the summit. Summited in 2 hours 6 minutes. High winds and below zero!. Incredible 360 degree view. Beautiful day! 3 hours 20 minutes round trip." — garyogden • Jan 24, 2021
"Hiked up Big Crow from the road. Great views on Little Crow. Then down the other side and up Hurricane. Superb views from there. I doubled back down the trail to the parking lot, then roadwalked down to my car. First hike of the day. Onwards to Baxter next. " — newenglandwarrior • Sep 20, 2020
"Very cold morning. Started a little bit later than we normally do and enjoyed a bluebird day even though it was cold and slightly windy on the exposed summit. I've done this one before, but it was still a very nice hike. " — LGH-Tom • Mar 7, 2020
"Hiked with Tom. Very cold morning and hike, but the views from the summit were totally worth it. Bare boots all day, no traction or snowshoes. Enjoyed blue skies throughout the hike and we were on the way down while everyone was still headed up. " — Kim-Stilson • Mar 7, 2020
"Second time up here, and certainly one of my favourite peaks. Quite possibly my favourite Fire Tower summit. Perfect day, beautiful blue skies and breathtaking views. Had the summit to ourselves, which for this peak is rare, especially given the conditions." — HikingViking • Nov 30, 2019
"4th of July trip east (steep) route to Hurricane. This is a pleasant moderate hike with a gorgeous 360 degree summit and firetower. Hiked with Allison and Adam. No one else was on the trail, did see a few other groups at the top. Overall a pleasant half day hike of around 5 miles round trip. Went swimming at Cascade lakes afterwards. Sadly there was a 23 year old man found dead very nearby at Cascade Falls later that night. Life is short, get out there and live it to the fullest, because you never know what’s going to happen.
