". We took 23 south to Bloomfield Ave., then Bloomfield Ave to White Rock Road in Verona. There are beautiful new athletic fields about 600 feet on the left. Petey and I parked in the last of three lots, and walked the gradual incline up White Rock Road. The first right off White Rock is where the water tower sitting atop Second Watchung Mountain can be found. We walked up to the fence surrounding the tower and took a picture. We then proceeded to walk around the large apartment complex so as to take one of the park trails that start behind it. We walked a few thousand feet into a vast field where the Essex County Sanitarium used to be located. The middle of the field appeared to be just as high, if not higher, than the water tank area. The best views were to the west, when we were walking through the apartment complex to get to the second high point. There was little or no haze in the westerly direction.
