While herds of tourists ascended stone steps to modest overlooks in Zion Canyon, Bhakti and I opted for an off-the-beaten-path adventure away from the crowds in Zion Wilderness. We descended into Gifford Canyon, following the pools of sandy water under downed trees and over waterfalls to a massive washbowl. With a careful route choice, we scrambled out of the canyon over insane terrain to the summit of Hepworth Peak for wonderful views of the surrounding peaks and mesas. With neighboring Roof Peak just a scramble away, we decided to climb it as well. These two mountains rarely get visited, so we were honored to have the opportunity to show them some love. And they rewarded us wonderfully!
