"Blame it on the Peakery App. When I'm on vacation with Joe, the rule is the peaks have to be *gentle* and *accessible.* Well, what's more accessible than a drive-up peak, hmm? And then it turns out that this drive-up peak is on a pretty rough 4x4 forest service road. The only other two vehicles we passed on the way up were Polaris OHVs (they gave me some "whaaat are you doing back here?!" kind of looks - whatever man, I'm in a Jeep, and I know what I'm doing!). And oh my goodness. IT WAS SO WORTH IT. Besides the fun drive, the VIEWS. Oh my gods the VIEWS. Just... the Markagunt plateau spread out beneath us, and ALL of that glorious fall color, lit up by the sun. Oranges, reds, yellows, and greens, against the dark brown of the lava flows... incredible. Just... I was almost in tears it was so beautiful. The drive was fun, the walk at the top of Henrie Knoll was nice, and the views were just... breathtaking. Beyond belief. Gods, I love things like this - exploring out in the middle of nowhere, no idea what you're going to find, on an adventure, and finding these incredible gems. Just amazing. And so much fun!
