At the end of a run that took us from Rt. 43 to Harvey's Knob and the Blue Ridge Pkwy, we had to leave the trail and scramble to the top of the mountain. In the winter, there are sweeping views of the valleys and the Peaks of Otter mountains through the trees. There is a desolate quiteness at the peak, while the mountain sharply falls all around creating the knob.
