Hiking Hart Mtn is made easier by a gas well site located high on the northside of the mountain. The hike up from there is through forest to a ridge that runs south toward what's supposed to be the higher part of the mountain. Because the southern portion of the mountain is relatively flat discerning the actual highest point is difficult. I walked around the area a bit then headed to the northern point of the mountain before returning to the well site. Getting to the well site: From US-550 turn on to a signed 2770 Road (Hart Canyon Rd) and stay on it as it heads east to a junction where 2770 makes a sharp bend changing directions. Leave 2770 at the bend continuing straight then at a fork take the right branch that climbs up the mountain to the well platform.
