11.3.2021~Griffith Peak (11,060’) /Harris Mtn. (10,060’) Combo Meal, via The Rainbow Subdivision in Kyle Canyon, 11 miles, 5,000’ gain in 7:08hrs. I took it slow because I forgot my ankle brace, the route is rough and in a burn area with a lot of off trail, so I couldn’t hurl myself up and down these mountains as fast as I normally would. An unusually warm November had me choosing shorts instead of leggings. My normal 1.5 liters of water wasn’t enough (due to the heat) so I drank a bottle of melted snow. I consumed only one homemade meatball sammie. This rarely used 5 mile Griffith/Harris Trail was recently restored (after being decimated in the 2013 Carpenter 1 fire) by hard working volunteers. I use this route often but I use to have to climb over many logs and clamber over cliffs on the ridge as the trail was very hard to follow. Unfortunately, I’ve never seen what it looked like before the fire. The mountain is quiet with ample solitude. It felt good to be in high elevation again.
