"Approached Hamblin Butte from the NW, after watching the sunset I figured this was a perfect opportunity to finally tag Hamblin as the other approaches look rather long. Descended down the butte to the South almost immediately and made my way up to the main summit of Hamblin. On the way down I tagged West Hamblin which was a fun class 3 romp. The moon was 97% illuminated tonight but completely covered by ominous clouds." — MikeERodriguez • Feb 15, 2025

"3.13.23~Random Hamblin & Jacal peaks w/Fances. 7.6 miles, 1,500’ gain in 2:35hrs. She was heading out there for her workout and sent me a red alert text to come hang and I bit down on that hook hard….she reeled my a$$ in to this beautiful area on a warm & lovely day. I haven’t been in my shorts drawer in months. I left the peak early for a jog but I was feeling like I don’t take the mtn beating as well as I use to, but I still got back in :47 min. "Took advantage of the wonderfully cool weather for a quick trip up Hamblin this morning. Went up standard route & looped back down around Basalt Peak. Sat up top for about 20 minutes. Breezy, cool & very pleasant!" — StudioHoodoo • May 30, 2022

"Dylan was back in town for the weekend and wanted to go on a hike. Hadn't hiked in a while, so we wanted something familiar. We took advantage of the lowering temps for a favorite hike out by Lake Mead." — Kevin • Oct 18, 2020

"Decided to enjoy the cooler weather for a quick trip up Hamblin. Been there many times, but wanted to do something fast. It was surprisingly cool this morning! Likely the last Lake Mead hike before Hell heat sets in next week. I went up the standard route & then looped around Basalt Peak on the way down. Saw a Western Tanager! The honey mesquite & acacia in bloom...smells wonderful!" — StudioHoodoo • May 23, 2020

"This is a nice day trip. Most of the trail requires following a few washes to get to the base of the mountain itself. There are a few small class 3 climbs on the way, but nothing terrible. The peak, even though the elevation isn't insanely high, offers a great view of Lake Mead and the surrounding area. It can get pretty hot during the day, as there isn't many places with shade, so make sure to bring a lot of water and sunscreen. " — alexehagen • Mar 25, 2019

"2.23.19...7.7 miles, 1,500’ gain in 2:34hr. Jimmy needed to get off the grid because of work stress so I took him to a couple of my fav LMNRA Peaks. We had to hurry and get back to take the twins to dance. We were surprised there was snow out there too. This route is a giver with expansive views. He loved it. The clay in the washes was wet and clumping to our shoes so it made it hard to jog those portions. We saw a herd of Bighorn sheep grazing. Lots of new grasses growing. "What an incredibly beautiful day! Got up early & headed out to the Northshore to see the snow fall. The entire area was covered in snow. I'd never seen it like that before. Drove out to Pinto Valley, taking lots of pictures along the way. Hiked into PV & saw Sentinel & Redstone covered in snow. So pretty! I hung out there for awhile, then headed to Hamblin Mountain. There was so much snow! The views of the peaks in AZ were amazing." — StudioHoodoo • Feb 18, 2019

"A beautiful day with great weather. We parked at the pullout for Hamblin Mountain. Followed the trail up to the saddle, and took a short detour to J.A.C.A.L. peak (hopefully added into Peakery soon!). From there, we traversed back down to the saddle and up Hamblin Mountain. From Hamblin, we dropped down on the West side and made our way down to the saddle between Hamblin and West Hamblin, and then back up to West Hamblin - the most challenging of the three peaks. A lot of loose rock (and some rotten rock) on West Hamblin, but the ridgeline/edge was quite sturdy. From West Hamblin, we returned to the saddle and dropped down into a wash and followed it until we reached Basalt peak. We more or less went straight up the side of Basalt Peak. From there, we dropped down the side and jumped a few washes until we returned to the original Hamblin mountain trail. " — psychikingjes • Dec 22, 2018

"We took the standard route to Hamblin, making a short side trip to J.A.C.A.L. Peak, which I hadn't been to (Barry skipped this one). 5 hikers (2 of which were on our hike today) previously named this point using the first letter of each of their first names. From Hamblin, we went down the steep west side to the saddle, then all but Barry & Justine went up to West Hamblin, which nobody else in our group had been to other than myself. After returning to the gully, we descended north down another loose gully to the valley below, then made our way to the shoulder of Basalt Peak, where Justine & Barry peeled off and went down, while the rest of us trudged up to the summit, making this a nice 4-peak day. We took a different drainage down, which was nice. What a fun group we had today!" — Kevin • Dec 22, 2018
