"Approached Hamblin Butte from the NW, after watching the sunset I figured this was a perfect opportunity to finally tag Hamblin as the other approaches look rather long. Descended down the butte to the South almost immediately and made my way up to the main summit of Hamblin. On the way down I tagged West Hamblin which was a fun class 3 romp. The moon was 97% illuminated tonight but completely covered by ominous clouds." — MikeERodriguez • Feb 15, 2025

"This was my second time. Went out early to beat the heat. First time was many years ago & it was my first Lake Mead peak. I had no idea what I was doing & I took a really crappy route on the east side. This time, I strolled up the west side & it was very pleasant. Definitely the easiest volcanic peak I've hiked recently! " — StudioHoodoo • Apr 28, 2024

"1.29.2020, 5.5 miles, 1,700’ gain, 3:13hrs, 4 Peak~Hamblin Butte, Gray Cap, Red Cap & Peak 2474’ knife edge traverse (2 diff trailheads), LMNRA. Windy days are great for this area so I scampered around with glee up to several rugged peaks. The summits had terrific gusts that tossed me a bit. I did well despite only having a few hours before kid pick-ups. Saw an owl and some curious bighorn rams. Super razor sharp terrain! Bowl of Fire was stunning as usual. https://youtu.be/hRqZSN80HyM" — paula.raimondi • Jan 29, 2020

"Ascended the East Slope of Basalt Peak. While up there, Corey & I were able to see Amber & her group on top of Hamblin Mountain. After a while, we descended the West Ridge, which we traversed over to Hamblin Butte. We climbed up the steep East Slope to the summit, where we were greeted with awesome views of the lake and surrounding area! We took the North Slope down and made a loop out of it all." — Kevin • Jan 7, 2017

"Not sure of exact date. This was my first Lake Mead "peak"! I had no idea what I was doing, nor did I have any experience with loose rock. I went up & down the east side (not the best choice). " — StudioHoodoo • Mar 17, 2007
