"Overnight climb with Tours & Activities SA. We were worried that the mountain would remain closed after Fuego’s massive eruption at the beginning of the week, but everything was opened just two days later. Post explosion, Fuego volcano has a new crater shape. We did the optional side trip to Fuego overlook but everything was socked in, and the mountain had seemingly spent all of its energy earlier in the week. It steamed and smoked a bit but we saw no lava during our climb. Some stray dogs on the mountain accompanied us for most of our trek. The summit of Acatenango was beautiful and busy, and the hike down against Saturday traffic was anxiety inducing. " — wacbravo • Mar 15, 2025
