"Parked at the car park behind the Dartmoor Inn, and walked directly to the summit of Brat Tor. The onward to bleak house. Was going to do green tor as I was there but the weather was closing in...so headed back via the dunna goats, great links tor and arms tor. " — staggeronward • Oct 24, 2021
"Parked in High Down CP and set off taking the longer southerly route towards Black Rock in search of the memorial plaque that resides there. Once discovered, crossed River Lyd and then ascended up the steepest side of Brat Tor to the Widgery Cross atop. North across Arms Tor to the illusive Smallacombe Rock and then east to the magnificent Great Links Tor for lunch before a gentle downhill return direct to car park. 9.2km. Cold and Misty. Solo. "Parking in Lydford, and taking it in turns carrying a heavy collapsible ladder, we headed up to the moorland gate and on to cross the River Lyd by a bridge. To ease the ascent, we contoured up to the gap between Arms Tor and Brat Tor, continuing on, off the path now, to the summit. With the ladder carefully positioned to launch myself onto the lower granite plates of the tor, I scrambled up to the summit. Getting back onto the ladder above the exposed drop proved tricky, and I ended up descending the ladder backwards. AT followed with the second successful summit bid. We then rested and snacked in the lee of the cold easterly wind before heading on to Amicombe Hill." — marktrengove2 • Apr 6, 2019
"My Bombardier Leadership course was carried out in Plymouth and around Dartmoor. I also spent a few weeks on Military excercise in and around the Moors. Okehampton was our basecamp, along with many other bivy areas around DTA (Dartmoor Training Area) spent many hours, both day and night, tabbing around Dartmoor in the cold and wet......it was ALWAYS cold and wet !!.
A beautiful area though, one day, I'd love to go back under my own guidance, and appreciate the moors in my own time. " — HikingViking • Apr 8, 1997
