"After completing Blencathra as our very first introductory Lake district walk (very naively may I add) with no idea how challenging it would be, or had any idea what the wainwrights were at this point. We were staying in the area and decided to give the great end a go... WELL did we jump in at the deep end, not only were we naively embarking on the 5th highest peak, very new to hiking of this kind we have gained so much from this experience and have taken it as a huge achievement and used it as a huge learning curve. We were greeted with a cold crisp clear day, stunning views. This hike was physically demanding to newbie legs and had relentless undulating terrain. The extra element of racing against the fading sunlight meant we had no choice to hang around. At times during this hike, we really had to dig deep but what a mental and physical challenge! Since the Great end we have now caught the bug setting ourselves the challenge of completing all Wainwrights'. :)" — Nicolefrances • Dec 3, 2022
"Headed up from Old Dungeon Ghyll in the wet and into clag. The mist started to lift at Angle Tarn but stayed on the top of Great End. Followed the cairns to the summit where the clag finally lifted enough to get partial views. After headed off to bag Ill Crag." — NorthernWayfarer • Jul 9, 2017

"From the NT car park in Wasdale. Took the Moses Trod path up by Sprinkling Tarn to Esk Hause, then over Great End and the other Pikes of Scafell to the highest point in England. Descent via the path to Wasdale via Mickledore. With IB and TM. Rain and hill-fog all day." — marktrengove2 • Jun 19, 1999
