Klaus and I rode mountain bikes in from Hwy 18 via Cactus Flats. We took the HPS gully up nearly up to the plateau before connecting with the route on Gaia GPS. GPS was useful, the terrain near the top is very jumbled. Great views out over the Mojave. Register can was rusted shut. We descended back down the alt route through the next gully south which was better overall. This should be the main route.
