"A nice solo hike with my dog Murphy on a partly sunny day. Trail was a bit muddy due to rains from Hurricane Debby. Some soft leaves and roots. No boulders to climb over. Nothing too sketchy. Parts were steady gradual inclines. Pretty waterfalls. Crossed over 2 ski trails and ended with a gravel road walk. A few other hikers and mountain bikers at the bottom. " — lfrancois • Aug 12, 2024
"Kelly and I left the trailhead at 7:29am under smoky skies due to the Quebec fires. Temps near 50. The climb is part trail, part ski slope , part creek bed and part road to the summit. Summited at 10:15. Lost the trail twice...once up and once down in the same area. Cold enough to see your breath on the summit. No views due to the smoke. Returned to truck at 1:02 pm. Another tower in the books." — garyogden • Jun 7, 2023
"Overnight at a local hostel and slept 6hrs in a room for 8 lol, 6:15am departure, trailhead by 8am to climb my 30th Adirondack fire tower, Gore Mountain, Johnsburg N.Y.
In honesty I was nervous of this one, furthest away with limited GPS and no data, 6 1/4hrs. of uncertain trail time but when I got near the summit, OH my God! This is a ski mountain as some know but no snow anywhere here yet, Trails where dry and a steady climb till you reach the last mile of gravel road, which was very steep in sections, saddened for a closed tower but was a blessing to see, I'm beat! and it's been an amazing couple days in the Adirondacks on my quest of the fire towers, my first love in the ADK, Enjoy" — ramjet1963 • Oct 12, 2022
"The first part of the hike was nice. We hiked along a river and series of waterfalls. The second half of the hike, not so much. A lot of wetness in the trail. Then hiking along ski slopes at the summit. The fire tower is closed due to active tower use (cell phones), which was disappointing. Directional views on the summit. Hazy day too. "Clear day - snow on summit. Trail was wet but in good condition. Kids butt slid down the peak. Disappointed to find the tower not climable.

"42 days since I last hiked (there is this thing called life) and I was recently told to hike once a month to ‘fit in.’ For me the mountains are never about ‘fitting in’ - it’s about peace, serenity, clarity and centering yourself. Anyway this makes 28/30 for the fire towers, thankful for a beautiful day, and cheers to ‘fitting in.’ " — scottturner • Sep 8, 2019
"Finally grabbed this beaut which was on the radar for a while. Trail was one of the best of all the FT's. Shafer trail is very scenic. Took 3 members of our club, for their first ever Fire Tower. One of the toughest (due to distance) but the views towards the summit were worth it." — HikingViking • Jul 13, 2019
"My last tower in the ADK Challenge. Not a fan of hiking on ski trails or access roads but a little bit of both on this hike.
Summit tower closed but managed to hike to first landing. Construction of new summit lodge going on which took some
of the luster out of the experience." — billsussdorff • Sep 29, 2017
"Beautiful Spring Day! The trail is a work of art - going along Roaring Brook, with numerous waterfalls for the first 2 miles (watch markers carefully at the start - there are cross country ski trails & bike trails in the area). We saw a bit of everything - waterfalls, leaf strewn trail, water crossings (easy), a couple of icy scrambles, ski trails, the fire tower, etc." — PJSelmer • Apr 17, 2016
"Hiked to the Gore Fire Tower. It was my sisters birthday and also her final fire tower hike to complete the list. Nice hike, very few skiers on the slopes close to the summit. Conditions were windy and socked in. Blue skies came out on our descent. One tower left for me, but it will have to wait until Perkins Clearing Road opens back up in May." — LGH-Tom • Mar 25, 2016
