My first trip out to Gold Butte National Monument! Now that I've been out there, I know I need to come back. We camped at the Gold Butte Townsite, and from our campsite the first morning we hiked up to the peak, explored the mines, and came back. A beautiful day, an easy route (follow the surprisingly steep abandoned road), and only one rattlesnake sunning himself on the road on the way back down. Ooops! The only bushwhacking/"routefinding" was from the top of the road to the peak, which wasn't very far. This peak is fairly vertical, that's the only issue; the road is surprisingly steep and climbs the vast majority of the elevation in only a short amount of distance.
