"I mountain biked this peak a week ago. Then I started the hike at 8:30. Then I started at the South Ridge Trail. Then I went down the Little Canyon Trail. The trail was sort of covered by large bushes and trees. Then I entered a cool valley and then an oak forest. Then I crossed a creek and went onto the Sycamore Trail. Then I went through an overgrown mustard area. It was very beautiful but super overgrown. Then I went through a light forest. Then I went beside a fence on the North Ridge Trail. Then I went by a weird fence. Then I went onto the Gilman Trail and crossed a large meadow. Then I summited Gilman Peak. The summit has cool views, a benchmark, and a sign. Then I went through an overgrown section of the trail. It had tons of beautiful views and lots of flowers. Then I crossed a dry meadow. Then a crossed a creek and turned right. After that I crossed many creeks and saw a flower bush that looks like cotton. Then I went on onto the Diemer Trail. Then I went on to the South Ridge Trail. It was pretty boring but I made it to the trailhead. " — lc444 • Apr 20, 2023
"Completed a loop hike from the Rimcrest Drive Trailhead in Yorba Linda. The round trip route went from Easy Street Tr. - Telegraph Canyon Tr. - Gilman Trail (to the peak), then to North Ridge Trail - Sycamore Canyon Tr. - Telegraph Canyon Tr. - Little Canyon Tr. - South Ridge Tr. (back to the trailhead). This was my visit #3." — MikeTeeples • Oct 24, 2020
"Great weather with fantastic views of the mountains of the Angeles National Forest which are largely still in snow. From the parking area, went to San Juan Hill first, then crossed over to the other ridgeline and then back to get Gilmore Peak. Then back to the car. Barely saw anyone else." — marc • Jan 20, 2019
"1st of 2 summits on an awesome cool, breezy, and cloudy mid-spring day. I started at the Rimcrest Drive Trailhead and hiked down Easy Street Trail to Telegraph Canyon Trail, following Telegraph east for a short bit before turning left and heading north up the Gilman Trail to the summit just short of 2 miles one way. After the peak, I retraced my steps back to Telegraph Canyon and headed east for about 2 minutes and found the Little Canyon Trail, which I took uphill to meet South Ridge Trail, which I followed about 2.5 miles to San Juan Hill (1,781'). I returned to my car via South Ridge all the way to the trailhead. With both Gilman and San Juan Hill, my total mileage was about 8.5 mi. round-trip with about 2,200' gain, as the South Ridge Trail undulates along the crest. Gilman alone would be just short of 4 miles round-trip with 900' gain total. The hike to Gilman was fairly easy with a few steep spots that may slow you a bit on the Gilman Trail itself. Both Gilman and San Juan make for a moderate hike which provides a nice workout without being strenuous. Telegraph Canyon has nice stands of Southern California Walnut (Juglans californica), a fairly rare endemic large shru..." — brianpowell • May 1, 2018
"Hiked up here with my girl on a very beautiful spring day. We 1st hit the San Juan Hill from the rim crest entrance. we then dropped into telegraph canyon via the delight trail and made our way west toward Gilman peak. Just as we got to the Gilman peak trail we cam across 2 awesome coyotes who were not very afraid of us and let me get lots of great pics. The way up to the peak was gorgeous. I have never see this trail look so good, its usually dead and ugly shit on this trail but not today. This peak was #29 of my 100 in 2014 goal." — 1-with-Nature • Apr 26, 2014
