"AT lash Day 5: Swaim Gap to Phyllis Spur with side trips to nearby peaks along the way. Took the Duncan Ridge Trail to the base of Slaughter Mountain, then bushwhacked to the summit via the northeast ridge. Spoiler alert: more brambles. This one hurt, a lot. I foolishly thought Slaughter would have some sort of a social trail, but all I found were interment game paths through dense brush. There’s lots of evidence of hogs at the summit, but nothing else. Made camp at the col of Phyllis Spur, and was treated to a night full of explosions and heavy gunfire from the nearby military base." — wacbravo • Oct 13, 2024
"Solo hike up Jarrard Gap Trail, a well-maintained but gated gravel road, to the Appalachian Trail to Turkey Stamp and back. On the way out did a light bushwhack over Gaddis Mountain with a good winter view to the southeast from the subpeak and a good winter view of Slaughter Mountain coming down from the peak, but Blood Mountain was hidden by Turkey Stamp. Turkey Stamp was a moderate bushwhack and had good winter views of both Blood and Slaughter Mountains from the peak. My GPS/GPX track shows where I went around a thick grove of young, short trees that would be a heavy bushwhack. Coming back over Gaddis Mountain, I found a corner forest property stake at Jarrard Gap." — davidensley • Dec 3, 2023
