"Birthday run with Jake the Dog (trail name: Barq). Beautiful day for going up and coming down the mountain, but the wind was bitter at the top. My ears got so cold; I had a headache. Other than that, Jake and I had a great run. This was his longest run (7.6 miles) and most elevation gain (near 2,000 feet)." — runshigleyrun • Feb 17, 2024
"Sluggish run up and down the AT. However, the views were spectacular with the December trees. Vistas of Tinker, McAfee, Read, Coyner, and so many other familiar mountains. Caught the meadow just as the sun was setting. " — runshigleyrun • Dec 4, 2022
"A surprisingly gentle trail-run climbing 1,700 feet to the Fulhardt Knob Shelter. A beautiful morning FULL of thru-hikers. During this short section, we passed 15 thru-hikers! Clearly, a popular year. The winding switchbacks make for a non-difficult ascent. The lack of technicality makes for a safe return running down the mountain. Beautiful, sweeping views in the meadow, but ticks galore! " — runshigleyrun • Jun 24, 2022
"Part of an 11-12 mile trail run out-and-back along the AT. A great long climb from Route 11 and perfect for training. Outstanding views in the winter; especially from the meadow toward the beginning. Stunning views of Tinker Mountain, McAfee Knob, Catawba Mountain, and the Great Valley. "Part of an 11-12 mile trail run along the AT. Climbed Fullhardt Knob East from Route 11, which was a 1,450-foot climb. However, I climbed it again coming back south from Flattop. It was another 500+ foot climb from the other side. Truly, a knob. " — runshigleyrun • Jan 15, 2022
"A cooler, cloudy summer morning with only a few hikers along the trail. Legs felt great as I ran up the non-technical AT up to the Fullhardt Knob shelter. Honestly, the meadows were by far the best view of the day with grasslands surrounded by near mountains such as Read, Stewart's Knob, Tinker, and many off in the distance. Blackberries were plentiful and there were even a few Turk Cap Lilies to gawk at. The forest was lush on the way and the climb was rather gentle for as much elevation gain as there was.
