"After years of looking south and seeing the highest peaks in the Tahoe region dominating the skyline, I finally stopped making excuses (e.g., too far to drive, not enough time, eating a donut, etc.). Today was the day!
All went well except underestimated how much water to bring. Up above treeline, it was hot and hardly any shade. I knew this going in, but I drained my 2 Nalgenes way too early. Aborted attempt on South Jobs (Steve?) as dehydration started to dog me. All in all, a must-do loop in Tahoe, but be prepared for a big day with no water source most of the way. "Awesome day out! Started an hour before sunrise and was rewarded with nearly PERFECT spring conditions. A little breakable crust, a little postholing, but mostly just delicious, firm, climbable snow. The road was well-packed by snowmobile traffic, so even the long approach wasn't too bad. A true pleasure to romp around on these high peaks and ridges on a picture-perfect bluebird day. Didn't see another person all day - like I had the entire Willow Creek drainage to myself." — klotito • Mar 28, 2021

"Backpacked to Star Lake, set up camp, and then hiked with a much lighter pack up to Freel. Slow going the last mile, but beautiful temps and weather even for a late summer afternoon. Some big clouds, but no rain. Had the summit to ourselves. " — kaylam87 • Aug 8, 2020

"I hiked this on November 9 with great conditions. The weather was perfect! The dirt road wasn’t that rough and a regular sedan could make it up there with careful driving. I think it took us about 25 mins on the dirt road in a small SUV.
Even though it was a Saturday, we didn’t see a ton of people on trail, just some mountain bikers and a few other folks toward the summit. Around 10k feet I started to slow down due to the altitude, but slow and steady is the name of the game to get to the summit.
We had clear views at the top and the wind was minimal. Really couldn’t ask for better weather! There were very small amounts of snow and ice on shady parts of the trail, but nothing that was a barrier to continuing the hike. Happy trails!" — kaylam87 • Nov 9, 2019

"Did a triple peak bagging hike on Sunday. Jobs Peak is Ogul #18 at 10663', Jobs Sister is Ogul #19 at 10823', and Freel Peak is Ogul #20 at 10881'. Freel Peak is the tallest peak in the Tahoe area. Hiked these with Carley and Lucy from NorCal Women Adventurers.
The hike up to Jobs Peak was steep and steady, but the trail was nicely maintained and shaded in the morning until we got up toward the saddle. Then it was much more desert like, with interesting rock formations along the ridge. We angled up to avoid a steep snowfield on the trail, and stopped for a snack before the push to the summit. We could see the peaks in Mokelumne Wilderness and out toward 395. The view toward Gardnerville was hazy. I think we all started getting headaches as we were now over 10000'. About 2.5 hours after starting, we reached the summit. We signed the register at the top and took pictures before heading back down to the saddle to tackle our second peak.
The trail over to Jobs Sister was faint, but we headed in a general downward direction. We saw a faint path a few times, but it petered out once we got to the bottom of the saddle. Unfortunately you have to lose about 1000' of elevation between the t..." — kaylam87 • Jul 16, 2017
"Headed up Freel Peak in order to go out and tag Job's Sister and Job's Peak. With a later than planned start on the Armstrong Pass trail I only got Job's Sister. Still a stellar hike in the Tahoe basin." — Nimblefoot • Jul 19, 2013
