Went for a day hike off Carson Pass today with my wife. After doing Round Top last week, I have been officially bit by the peak bagging bug. Our main destination was 4th of July Lake, however, after reading some reports on this site had hoped to combine this hike by summiting 4th of July Peak, Peak 9795, Melissa Coray, and Covered Wagon.

By the time we finished up at the lake, where the fishing was on fire, we climbed out the hole and up to the saddle leading to the peak. We saw a fellow running down from the summit. We set off up the use trail and bagged this summit in 15 minutes. The wind was absolutely ripping up there in the 25-30mph range from the south. Hung around on the peak for 20-30 minutes, never found a register. Ended up calling it a day and saved the others for another day. By the time we turned the corner to Round stop Lake, the wind was coming out of the north and at Winnemucca Lake from the east. So weird! Great day trip. Walked 14 miles total and took my 3rd summit in as many weeks! Now just gotta settle on my next one!

Note: Vertical gain is from 4th of July Lake since we summited from that ascent. Actual total vertical gain on the day is much higher. Total miles is Carson Pass to 4th of July Lake, to 4th of July Peak, back to Carson Pass.
