"Matt, Katie and I left the Bear Den Mtn trailhead at 9:12 am with blue skies @ 57 degrees. We took our time up looking for bees nests after all the postings and blogs on Peakery and All Trails about hikers having the shit stung out of them pretty much the whole month of August. The paper wasp nest that was on the ground is gone. Farther on we came to an abandoned trekking pole and hat hung on a limb on the left side of the trail. The ground bees nest is about 10 to 12 feet above them. Looks like a coon or something dug up the rotted log they are in. Bees were still using what was left. We skirted to the right side and rejoined the trail above. We marked the trail so we would know where to leave the trail on the way down. Trail was dry with great views from the summit. Spent an hour on top by our selves. Returned to car at 11:15 @ 84 degrees." — garyogden • Sep 3, 2022
"Some days you just need a nice little hike with friends, great little trek up Bear Den and Flume, and then off to Big Slide for a curbside - another little hike for the ADK 6 pack." — deb-and-rob • Jun 7, 2020
"Hiked both Flume Knob & Bear Den via The Flume Trail System in Wilmington. No views from Flume as the cloud cover was thick early, but there were
decent views of Whiteface from Bear Den. The upper portion of the trail to Bear Den was poorly marked & required a short bushwhack to get to the
top. Icy conditions with the recent weather so micro spikes were definitely needed.

"Parked at Bears Den trailhead because we had hiked that trail the previous weekend. Nice hiking path to Knob...really pretty trail. Got turned around on flume trails on the way out and ended up hiking an extra couple of miles. No signs for Bear's Den parking on trails. Only Whiteface markings. Beautiful hike. No wind and about 50 degrees with full sun. Quiet trail. One couple, a single hiker and a group of about 10 teenagers who of course wore sneakers.

"Took a well earned day off work to go finish the "alternate" 29er Challenge and the LP 9er. Weather wasn't the best, but could've been worse. Forecast was rain all day. We got lucky.............ish." — HikingViking • Oct 31, 2018
"Cold spring day, solo hiking Flume Knob and Coopers, Owen, Taylor and Lynch ponds. Great weather, nice views looking east from the top of Flume Knob. This was a quick hike starting from the Wilmington Wild Forest Flume Trail system. Trail is well marked, conditions were great, ground was still frozen and dry which made for solid footing." — hbotc • Apr 29, 2016
