"One of the more interesting HPS summits I’ve climbed in a while. Camped at the base overnight and slogged up in the morning. Route got a little easier after reaching the notch between the 4th and 5th fingers with easy scrambling to the top. Steps were cut into the class 3 section, very un-Sierra Club like. "I started out not sure if I was going up the right way, since I saw no use trails or foot prints. About halfway up, I could see a use trail cutting through the scree fields. This gave me more confidence, but I still had a lot of climbing to do. Meanwhile, I noticed the shadows creeping forward behind me. I made my best effort to race the shadows up the slope with the goal of reaching the saddle before the sunshine did (little game of motivation to keep me going). Despite the short distance, it was a long slog to the top. It took longer than expected, so I quickly did the boulder climb to reach the summit. Since the slope is at such a steep angle, it was a quick trip back down. I scree skied half way down and made an easy walk of the rest of the way." — MikeTeeples • Apr 22, 2018
"I hiked up Five Fingers after hiking Backus and Russell earlier in the day. After hiking those two peaks, it was a tiring slog up the sandy slopes to the notch between fingers 1 and 2, however the class 3 section was fun. I was simultaneously relieved and disappointed to find that someone had cut small steps into the rock face to make the climbing a little easier. Very windy at the top. I would come back to this peak to do a little more scrambling." — klotito • May 14, 2017
"I'm not a rock climber, so after making it to the summit, I was pretty nervous at the prospect of doing the Class 3 section again in reverse. Somehow, this ended up not being as bad as I thought it would be. Incredible views, beautiful peak, great hike." — HikerMark • Oct 12, 2014
"Found the HPS Section route to Aquila. They say easy class 3. It was easy, but class 3 I think is a stretch. I sadly ran right up to my turn around time and was running out of sunlight and just couldn't find the register. So next time I guess." — Irrationalist • Jun 14, 2013
