"9.4.23~ Labor Day Feline Fang & Canine Crag via Petroglyph Canyon & Hidden Valley Trail~Sloan Canyon, NV w/Hubby wubbsies. I couldn’t remember the exact way Harlan took me up in 2019 so we were just winging it. I put the track on Peakbagger but not sure it’s the most intuitive way to go as there was one Oops in a gully when heading up Cat Fang that we bailed on since I didn’t Uber trust the rock and we didn’t bring helmets. This area is so pretty with interesting rock formations and ancient art. " — paula.raimondi • Sep 4, 2023
"12.29.19.....Canine Crag, Feline Fang, Ecru and Mystic Peaks. Scampering to and from a 4 peak trek in Sloan Canyon w/Harlan. 20.20 miles, 3,700’ gain, 8:21hrs. I am a bit under the weather so I didn’t worry about pace. “Relentless forward progress” was my strategy. I extracted every molecule of joy out of the day, basking in the glorious satisfaction of hard work on the trails and up to the mountain tops. Harlan Stockman invited me to this outing and planned to test ropes. He said it may not be too interesting so I had no pressure or worry. I thought I would be hanging out and watching his methods. He eventually broke the news to me that I too would be summiting these peaks. I wasn’t sure I wanted to fail at something new when I’m currently at my limit of unfinished summit projects. Luckily I was able to follow him up every one for the win. They were so spectacular and challenging. I enjoyed every second. You know it’s going to be exciting when the peak/crag you are about to climb has the bones of a majestic big horn sheep scattered below it. Eeek! "This was a nice hike with some fun people. We started at the Sloan Canyon Visitor Center and hiked through the washes to the saddle between Canine Crag & Feline Fang. We took the class 2 way up to Canine Crag and the crumbly class 3 route back to the saddle. When I got near the saddle, a big rock that I was standing on broke off from under my feet and almost took me with it. Luckily, there was nobody below me and I was able to grab and hold on to the rock behind me. The class 2 route up to Feline Fang was loose, but not too bad. We returned a slightly different way, taking a different wash so we could look at the petroglyphs. I have hiked in this area before. The loose, crumbly rock sucks, but the area is beautiful." — Kevin • Feb 25, 2018
