"Horseshoe loop. I did Falls Lookout first then followed scenic ridge towards Leeky peak . Ridge crest has a few short moderate sections (avoidable) with a little hint of exposure, especially on the way down from Leeky. I had fantastic conditions for November: very little snow, light to no wind in the afternoon, sunny. Great shoulder season objective." — Pawel G • Nov 12, 2023
"With the possibility of thunderstorms we didn't want to make a big commitment so Falls Lookout it was. It was not all that long but I was sweating pretty good (it was warm). I felt somewhat tired and the thought of going over to Leeky did not seem appealing." — BertB • Jun 10, 2023
"Our original plan was to ascend Onion Peak but due to the late start (10am-ish) we decided to go for a shorter objective. The easiest route up Falls Lookout is via South Ridge and is described well in Mike Porter's Fire Lookouts in the Canadian Rockies. We decided to do more interesting Horseshoe Loop from the other side in the clockwise direction. We went up a ridge to an unnamed peak north of the Lookout, followed the ridgeline to the summit and then finished the loop by descending SW ridge.
Moderate scrambling on the ridge except a few Class 4 steps with deadly exposure on a notch after the summit (could be easily avoided by losing some elevation). We had to cross a number of snow slopes which made the traverse more trickier than in the summer condition. Ice-axe came handy. I brought microspikes and they did the job but many people would prefer crampons." — Taras • May 20, 2019
