Morgan Irby and I climbed Eureka Peak in April 1987, when it was still unnamed. We started in Jackass Flats and traversed along the top of the Saline Range until we descended to Upper Warm Springs in Saline Valley. The traverse took three days. We started with nine gallons of water each ( total pack weight was nearly 100 pounds). After concluding the traverse I contacted the Board of Geographic Names and proposed the name Eureka Peak; after a review process the name was accepted. --Doug Kari, co-founder, Desert Survivors
