"Hiked from Black Rock Canyon, about 12 miles round trip as we meandered back and forth across some of the connector trains (Cliff View, etc.) on the return route to see some different scenery than the main wash. Beautiful weather, including spotting a rare cloud iridescence (rainbow cloud) during the final climb toward the peak. Had the trail mostly to ourselves, aside from passing 3 horse riders." — Sierrawildflower • Feb 20, 2022
"3/9/2019 Backpacked up the Eureka Peak Trail, a sandy wash and sometimes a slot canyon, to a point a little more than 1 mile below the peak and set up camp. Then hiked up a sometimes steep grade to the peak. Excellent views made it worth the hike! Returned to camp in windy 37 degrees weather. Backpacked out the next morning via the Burnt Hill Trail, which yielded more scenic views than the Eureka Peak Trail. " — thesearcherextraordinaire • Mar 9, 2019
"A couple close friends and I set out for a short overnight backpacking trip in Joshua Tree National Park. We started at lower Black Rock Canyon Campground and ended up just beyond Eureka Peak, camping in a nice valley. We peaked Eureka at around 1PM. Weather was great, but the trail in was probably 2 miles or more in a wash - this made for pretty rough trekking. Immediately after exiting the wash, we began the ascent to Eureka Peak. We also watched the sunset and sunrise from a nearby peak.
If you're leaving from Black Rock Canyon Campground, I highly recommend taking Burnt Hill Trail in to Eureka Peak Trail. It's a beautiful trail that avoids nearly all of the wash and the scenery is much better. " — knappster56 • Apr 16, 2011
