"Did this hike twice..but I can't find my pictures for either one. Spur cross is very remote taking a dirt road to get there. Once you are there, you pay in a little box (unless you have a state park pass). You begin at the bathrooms, take a trail left of the bathrooms, and head out on a somewhat decent trail. Soon the trail becomes very rocky, you hit a few ditches and end up in the wash for a bit. Lots of cairns to mark the way, but should have basic route finding skills on this one. The trail goes up to a saddle, and you can't really see the peak, and there is a sign saying not to go, but we went up with the ranger and there were already people up there. Took the other side of the saddle trail back and looped around. This part of the trail is MUCH easier (not so much large rocks) but it is VERY steep at the top and has scree! At least 4 people fell in our group when leaving the saddle.. Bring poles for the decent or return the way you came. Personally, I liked the return better. If you go with the Ranger, he tells you tons of history about the hike and where some ruins and pottery etc are. Very cool hike.. with some "ruins"(actually a wall) at the top.
