"Began our approach at 2:30am and Carihuairazo was covered by a lightning storm. The storm moved on light snow remained for our climb. At 4:30am, we roped up for climbing steep snow and a loose scramble section. On the summit by 5:30am. " — ivo • Oct 4, 2023
"We started at 3am to avoid the afternoon storms at the summit. The first half of the climb is easy, a slow ascend to the bottom of the glacier. After we dawned our crampons and started onto the glacier, the clear weather shifted into light rain, and then snow. We continued forward to reach a 3m vertical ice wall, just 100m from the summit . After gathering the courage, and with a lot of help from our guide, we reached the summit. We snapped some pictures then started back down and reached our cabin around 3pm. I stayed behind from the group to watch a herd of guanaco along the road on the way back. Overall, a challenging, but not too technical climb surrounded by the beautiful high plains of Ecuador.
