Great day to summit this peak before it gets too warm. It is best to get to the trailhead early as the parking fills up quickly. This is mainly due to hikers going to the much more popular Three Sisters Falls. From the trailhead head west. The trail will split. Left trail is Three Sisters Falls Trail, just about everyone will use this trail. Use the center trail which continues to the Eagle Peak. This trail is little used but only slightly over grown in spots. The trail is easy and even has shade along the way. It is easy to get off trail near the summit. Amazing views at the summit and lots of vultures and other birds effortlessly using the updrafts to stay airborne. Ramona is visible along with, Mt. Woodson, Iron Mountain, Veijas Mountain and Cuyamaca. Unable to see the ocean at this time of year due to the thick marin layer that is typical to San Diego May and June. Trail is out and back. Would recommend the use of trekking poles and gaiters.
