Was a beautifully calm day to hike Dutoits Peak with the MCSA!
Parked at the MCSA parking lot behind the farm gate (need to be an MCSA member to park here due to the farm owners, and even members have to pay R180 per car).
The route follows the farm barb wired fence (some bundu-bashing involved) up to the large pinnacle, from there a path becomes evident which traverses anti-clockwise around the pinnacle and up to the saddle between the pinnacle and the Dutoits Western ridgeline. From here up to the top of the ridgeline involves some B-grade scrambling with no exposure.
The path is well worn from the top of the ridge line along the approach but we did place extra kerns on the way up and on the way down.
Before the final approach there is a traverse along a roughly 2 to 3m wide ledge (in the pictures). I have heard that this traverse is tricky and becomes dangerous if recent snow has turned to ice, a anti-clockwise detour can then be used around the small peak and onwards to the main summit.
