12.16.2020~Solo, 4 peak extravaganza, 9 miles, 3,000’ gain, 4:51 hrs (including half hour photo shoot.) River Mtns/LMNRA, Falls Peak, Dry Falls Loop Peak, 2,915’ & The Bump for a finale. Peak 2,915’ hadn’t seen a visitor for 8 years! I was curious to see if I was brave enough to do this canyon alone and as it turns out, the answer is....yes! This intimidating and challenging canyon has many polished, and slippery dryfalls to get up. Some have ropes and some don’t. Some are high and some are awkward. It’s a full body (and mind) workout including, rope assisted ascents, rock climbing, stemming, smearing, mantels, scrambling and small exposed traverses. The majority of the rest of the route is in washes which has its own difficulties and caused fatigue on my Achilles. From the drainages I climbed class 2+~3 volcanic terrain to get to the peaks. I didn’t plan to descend Sheepbone Canyon because it seems dangerous as a descent route but my phone battery started to die and I use it to navigate. The track I uploaded was down a parallel canyon I had never been down and I worried I would encounter something I wasn’t prepared for and it was getting late. If my phone was to die, I could possible get lost trying to backtrack....so I made the executive decision to “go with the devil you know”....Fortunately it went better than I expected and I have the glory of conquering this canyon, both up and down, all by myself. Such an enjoyable day. Those views though....ta die fer. I love my new playground. So close to home.
