"I climbed this just after climbing Camelback Mountain, so I got a late start at 10:50 AM. Most of the trail after starting was through a plain with occasional views of Piestewa Peak. Then we climbed uphill and the trail go narrower. Then, after that, we started seeing views for once. After more climbing, we reached the summit ridge where we got views of the summit and some views of Paradise Valley and Camelback Mountain. After going up the use trail to the summit, there was views of the north valley of the Phoenix Metro Area, Piestewa Peak, Camelback Mountain, and the peaks surrounding this peak. "Turned into a longer day than expected, but a good day! I was surprised - I shouldn't have been, but I was - by how many vehicles were there at the Piestewa trailheads by 7:00 AM. It was morning twilight, but the sun hadn't risen yet, and there were already at least 100 cars, if not more. The trail was BUSY - something that I had read about, but it was... It wasn't quite as busy as Angel's Landing in Zion a few years ago (I haven't been back since ~2018ish, and as far as I know it's been infinitely worse, hence why it's now a permitted hike), but it was well-traveled, to say the least. Tons and tons of people. I made it up to the summit - it was WINDY. About knocked me over a few times. The condition of the trail, for those who haven't been there, is a lot of stair-stepping. And dodging of people of various hiking skill/ability. After spending a little time at the top, eating some energy chews, taking some selfies, and then getting tired of the wind, I headed back down, which felt a lot better, cardio-wise, and then came back down to the split off from the #300/Summit Trail and the #302/Freedom Trail. From there... I went into loop after loop! I got lost a few times, had a few fals..." — psychikingjes • Jan 29, 2022

"Bagged this peak on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Earlier that day I was en route to the Grand Canyon when flash flood warnings turned me around and sent me back to Phoenix. Still itching for a hike, I stopped at the north end of the mountains preserve and made my way to this peak. My rule with this one was that since the rocks were slick, I’d turn around if I encountered any sections that required me to use my hands (fortunately these worries were misplaced). Views from the top were spectacular, particularly the silhouette of the Sierra Estrella’s southwest of Phoenix. If you ignore the suburban sprawl surrounding the preserve, the desert takes on an almost prehistoric atmosphere in the rain. Well worth the short hike!" — tylerdelia • Sep 26, 2021

"Easy but rocky trail up this island of pristine desert in the middle of the Phoenix metro.
Great views of Camelback and Piestewa peak from the top. I went up the summit from the saddle following the ridge and down on the other side; the trails then makes a sharp turn and goes back to the saddle.
This summit seems to be within the Paradise Valley city limits." — Gabsolute • Jan 19, 2017
