"This was a nice day for an after work hike, although it was colder than we realized. It was a fairly easy hike up. There were signs along the trail with facts about the tower's history. The view at the top was good, including the Adirondacks, southern Green Mountains, meowskills, and the Taconic Ridge. Beast of the East wouldn't go all the way up the tower due to the wooden steps being too sketchy for him. We found a geocache as well. We also enjoyed the pond near the end of the trail. We saw large tadpoles, salamanders, backswimmers and turtles. There were also a lot of chipmunks along the way, plus we saw a Cooper's hawk flying overhead." — mrs-beast-of-the-east • May 11, 2018
"I convinced my son John to accompany me back to the Dickinson Fire Tower. Parked right at the trailhead and was on top in a few minutes. I climbed the tower, taking numerous pictures at every level. The views were stupendous, including Mt. Greylock." — barbaratraver • Nov 8, 2011
"Son John Eric Traver and I took Fire Tower Trail in Grafton Lakes State Park, crossed over boundary, climbed rugged road which steepened considerably. I went partway up it, but waited for him. He finally turned around too. At the park office we learned that the better approach was from the paved Fire Tower Rd. off Babcock Lake Rd. We drove to the end of the pavement and started back down the rugged road, but still didn't find the tower. John studied maps diligently and saw that the sidetrail to the tower was back down paved road a bit. It was so easy when we located it! Very short walk. I was too tired by then to climb the tower, but John did. I resolved to climb it the next day. (See next report.)" — barbaratraver • Nov 7, 2011
