"Hiked the Welch-Dickey Loop Tr counterclockwise, per multiple online recommendations. We felt we made the right choice, as the angle of many of the slabs on the way up would have made for a tricky and uncomfortable descent. It was a very humid morning, but the temperature remained fairly comfortable. Thankfully, the cloud cover was thick but high, allowing for a nice shield from the sun as well as uninterrupted views. And they were amazing. And plentiful! Well worth the time and sweat. The trail mostly varied between pleasant woodsy terrain and fairly steep slabs with amazing views. "Went to these two peaks with Nora and Kali. Hiked up the Welch trail over Welch Mountain and down to the col, then up to the summit of Dickey Mountain and down the Dickey trail to the parking lot. There were quite a few people hiking these trails and the summit of Welch had several people hanging out all over it, so we just took a picture or two (mostly with all the people in them) and continued over to Dickey to sit out of the way with the views and have lunch. Numerous people passed by while we were having our lunch and once we were done, we meandered down, enjoying the many amazing views from the ledges we were on most of the time. We did see a pretty snake somewhere on the way up Welch that allowed us to take pictures of it. The autumn colors were amazing! It was a great hike and one I would highly recommend. "We found another awesome NH day hike! This was described as a "classic New England hike" and was maybe our most enjoyable yet. The ascent up was gradual and provided spectacular views almost 30 minutes in with open ledges and lots of rock face. Do note that this is a perfect sunny hike, but I would not want to be on these rock slabs in any wet conditions. Be sure to check the weather before you head out! We reached the shorter peak of Welch first which provided a view of both the open ledge we had found on our way up and Dickey still ahead of us. We took a short break to refuel and headed on our way towards the second peak. It was only about a half mile hike and we had reached the second peak, with a view looking back where we had just hiked..which was pretty cool!!! We got a late start so it was about 4pm and we needed to hurry down towards the trail head. We hustled down the ridge which which offered a gorgeous view and then back down into the trees to finish of an awesome hike! It was a perfect hike: great views, some scrambling, a ridge, and just about 3 hours of total hiking time...perfect for a day trip from Boston!" — KDRupert3 • Jun 30, 2012
