"Nice day in Sierra Espuña, almost all the people are on the beaches so few people
today on this mountain. I headed for the Cumbre del Sombrero, going around Peña Apartada along the Umbria path (PR-59). The trail crosses pine and holm oak forests and brings me closer to the firebreak through which I climb to the top. I eat a little up there while I only listen to the whistling of the wind when it caresses the leaves of the pine trees. The ants are quite active searching for food to bring back to their nests.
I find thyme plants endemic to the southeast of Spain and some oak, also traces of foxes and mountain goats." — franciscobirruezo • Jul 23, 2023
"Autumnal but sunny day, we leave Collado Bermejo in Sierra Espuña along a path that surrounds the shady Peña Apartada. The ground is full of acorns and pine cones that will feed many animals next winter.
The reddish earth contrasts with the bright leaves of the trees. We pick up some pine cones to light the fireplace at home and also rose hips to make syrup." — franciscobirruezo • Nov 9, 2019
"Yesterday we tried to climb this mountain but it was impossible due to the weather conditions. Today we try again and discover a very interesting area of this natural park. A path in good condition takes us from Collado Bermejo to the base of La Cumbre del Sombrero. We went up a firewall looking for the summit while we heard the first thunder. When we reach the top the clouds surround us and the visibility is reduced, the forest becomes mysterious. We accelerate our pace to avoid the storm. The way back is long but the landscapes are worth it. In the end Nature has been benevolent with us today." — franciscobirruezo • Sep 9, 2018
