Tom, Joe, Yong Ae and I rendezvoused to Moon Haw to hike the old a Boy Scout trail a month after Tom and I last did it. Despite recent snowstorms there was less snow on the ground then back in December. Worse yet it is all fluffy and just deep enough to hide the variety of footing hazards of rocks, roots and branches. Higher up the fluff and leaves combo made for slippery footing despite wearing spikes. When we hit the range trail the new snow was roughly 2-3 inches deep then rose to about 4 inches as we neared the summit where we encountered some drifting. Ascending the crack was no problem as there was enough ice all the way up for our spikes to bite into. On our descent of the crack Tom deployed his longest lobster tail of nylon webbing as an additional assist.
