"Pretty much followed HPS Route 3, with the exception of the exact starting point. There is a dirt road north of mile marker 7.10 which I walked on for 0.40 miles before reaching a use trail that climbs the lower slope of Cole Point. The slope rises steeply and quickly to Cole Point. Once there, a lot more hiking is in store with the addition of Peak 5840 & Peak 5881. A firebreak connects all three peaks, making it look deceptively easy from Cole Point. However, there is quite a bit of ups and downs along the way. Glad I did this one on a cool day, since there is no shade out there." — MikeTeeples • Apr 25, 2021
"Lots of steep on this one! After you leave the utility road, there is *mostly* a trail but sometimes you have to get creative. I headed south along the ridge from the summit with the intent of summitting the other two unnamed peaks to the southeast. Somewhere along the way I screwed up my right ankle and decided to head back via the canyon right before the steep firebreak to the southernmost peak. Wasn't the smartest thing I could have done, but my car was parked at mm 8.10 based on the assumption that I would be coming down the ridge from the southern peak. It was pretty gnarly at first, very steep, overgrown, lots of scree, no trail. Decided to stay on the north side of the canyon as it looked like it had more options. Eventually found what looked to be an animal (deer?) trail, followed that for a while (and now my ankle is really hurting). Just used instinct and thankfully about halfway down found myself on a long-abandoned road that was extremely overgrown but at least it was flat. Made my way to the power line and improvised my way down to the car from there. " — walterplittle • Jul 16, 2017
"Hiked along with Mt. Emma and Old Emma. This was the most rugged of the three but probably also the most fun. Steep with a faint use-trail and some scattered brush. Lots of poodle dog bush. Saw a horned lizard near the top that posed for me. Some "scree-skiing" on the way down. Good hike." — klotito • Mar 22, 2015
"2.7 mile r/t w/1,400' gain from Angeles Forest Hwy mile-marker 7.14. Cold, very windy day, so I stayed on the leeward side of the ridge on a deer trail to stay warm. Kept to the maintained trail on descent, jogged down to keep warm. Steep, but good training for footwork." — BradStemm • Nov 5, 2013
