"Used spikes today up the rope sketch and down the easy way around Echo Lake with Maryellen, Chris, and Nancy. We can do hard things! A crisp winter day. Some flurries at the start. Pretty views of lake Placid. " — lfrancois • Jan 14, 2024
"Very warm and cloudy. Mashed potatoes and ice, fun little scramble-y rope bit - gets steep toward the top - went down around the backside and walked along Echo Pond... just beautiful. Parking is real weird though. I think because I was there at 8 am on a Friday when school was closed I got away with it, but the parking situation is sketchy and confusing." — stacydedring • Dec 30, 2022
"Took the steep and exposed route (counter clockwise) up. (1.0 mile) Took the gradual (clockwise) route down (1.55 miles). Definitely steep on the way up. One section had a rope to grab on to. The first half mile of the route that goes to the split (steep vs gradual) has a lot of exposed tree route to navigate. Pay attention to the homemade trail signs ( some are missing) for correct route. " — Tree2topper • Sep 19, 2021
"Amazing hike with Bailey the Hiking Pup through what seemed like a fairytale forest. So magical!! The shorter path and the rope leading up to just below the summit was intense for me being afraid of heights. Going up wasn't awful but coming down that roped section was a little unnerving. We did it though!! This hike was a 3 fold hike. First, it's Bailey the Hiking Pups 2nd Birthday!! We went on his first hike exactly 1 year ago today. 2nd, it's my mom's birthday too! She passed in 2016 but she is always remembered on this day. Lastly, it is sadly the 1 year anniversary of my closest friend taking his own life. We parked in the lot on Main Street and hiked the beautiful walk around Mirror Lake to the trailhead since the parking at Northwood School is closed to the public at this time. "Tom, Black and I arrived at the trailhead for Cobble Hill around 1pm after having hiked Big Crow and Mt Jo. We had considerable difficulty finding the trailhead even with our phones. There are 2 entries to the school and the trailhead is behind the school. Blue skies still and the trail was in good shape. Short but the final accent was steep. Great views and a good hike. This completed our Winter LP9. " — garyogden • Mar 7, 2021
"This is one of the Lake Placid 9 and I did it as a warm-up before doing my first high peaks, Cascade and Porter, later that same day. I really liked this little hike. I ran to and from the trailhead (which I missed somehow and had to double back a couple of times). It had a nice view and some fun little challenges - there was a rope to get up one rock face. Definitely a nice hike right near Mirror Lake, so I can definitely see doing it again." — kvander • Sep 21, 2019
"Second climb of the day,, Took the short route to the summit .4 mile so upwards it was with some sketchy icy rock scrambling, but nothing i couldnt handle,, spikes near the summit and a great bum slide on the way down,, Awesome day with full sun no clouds but frigid temps -17c" — ramjet1963 • Jan 13, 2019
"Last one we needed to complete for the Placid 9er. Nice trail, packed down snow, could of used micro spikes but we used our snow shoes.A lot of fun, went up and back the long way, less steep but more distance and exercise! Great views from the summit and of the pond." — hbotc • Dec 16, 2018
"A great little hike in the Placid area. We hiked up the more difficult section and continue down the other side, it was getting somewhat dark, so the Trailhead was a welcome site." — MarkEarle67 • Oct 20, 2018
"a quick run up Cobble before heading to Hurricane to wrap up our LP 9. Cobble is a fun little trail, nice views - our first snow squall of the season. Hurricane was a beautiful as she always is - lightly dressed in winter." — deb-and-rob • Oct 13, 2018
