"There aren't any "easy" ways up this mountain, but we probably made it a bit more difficult than it had to be. We bushwhacked up the south ridge, which involved some fun scrambling and route-finding. At a few points we were literally one hand hold away from turning around, but that made it all the more fun. After summiting, we followed the southeast gully down. Great day!" — LGH-Dan • Apr 2, 2017
"The large amount of private property in this area made it really tricky. I didn't find any good maps indicating the specific areas that were private, as opposed to Jefferson County. Then there is the fact that much of the land on the east side of the mountain is Coal Creek Canyon Park. Normally this would be a good thing, but unfortunately this area is closed to public access currently for the sake of wildlife conservation. Along with bears, cougars, and birds of prey, this area is also home to the Preble's meadow jumping mouse, a federally threatened listed species. I believe that in the future they plan to add trails through this park that hopefully will allow more straight forward access to Coal Creek Peak. For now, you just gotta bushwhack your way avoiding as much of the Private property as you can. " — IanWright • Jun 16, 2015
