"Beautiful day hiking up from South Fork trailhead, then skinning up to the top of Charlton Peak. Ski descent down the gully was fun and fast with hard sometimes icy snow, often covered with an inch of powder. Started from the trailhead around 7:20, and wasn’t back until 3pm. Elevation gain around 4,200 feet." — danishclimber • Jan 29, 2022
"8 peak day. Started by hiking up from Dollar Lake to the saddle and then climbing the south side of Charlton and on to Little Charlton. Dropped back to the trail at Dry Lake View camp and followed it around to south ridge of Jepson. Stashed the pack and did a quick tag of the Jepson summit (confusingly seems like a point just east is actually higher). Descending all the way down to the Dobbs ridge and followed it out to Dobbs (a weird choice for inclusion on the HPS list). Back up to the trail to join the crowds coming up from Vivian Creek to tag the San Gorgonio summit. Was super busy there, so I pressed on, dropping XC down to the Sky High trail. Never ending switchbacks contoured me around mountain, past the eerie C47 crash site memorial, down to Mineshaft Saddle, and then over through the burn zone to Fish Creek Saddle. I was starting to run low on water, but I set up camp and then headed out for a quick tag of Lake Peak and a longer-than-expected traverse over to Ten Thousand Foot Ridge. Great views of San G from this side. I was feeling a second wind when I got back to camp, so I finished out the day with an easy climb of Grinnell Mountain.
All in all one of the best days ..." — edg • May 30, 2021
"As if doing the 2020 SoCal Six (18) Pack of Peaks twice isn't enough, lets add 7 more peaks to the challenge. The San Bernardino to San Gorgonio (peaks 4 and 5 of round two) Nine Peak Challenge which also incudes San Bernardino East Peak, Anderson Peak, Shields Peak, Alto Diablo Peak, Charlton Peak, Little Charlton Peak, and Jepson Peak.
My friend Tara and I met up late the night before. Staged a vehicle at Vivian Creek and then drove up to Angelus Oaks to begin our journey. We stepped off right around 11pm on the 12th and headed up to our first peak of the day, San Bernardino Peak" — Philip-Yoho • Jun 13, 2020
"South Fork Trail to SB Divide Trail and then tagged both Charlton & Little Charlton. Pretty steep 800 ft scramble up to Charlton Peak from Dollar Lake Saddle and then short traverse to Little Charlton ending with 100 ft scramble up to the peak. Great hike and really fun scrambles." — jodola • Oct 27, 2019
"Another multiple peaks day. I started out at the South Fork Trailhead. Hiked up to Dollar Lake Saddle. From there I walked around Charlton Peak and left the trail at a point between Charlton and Little Charlton. I hike a short distance to a saddle between the two peaks. Dropped my pack and headed up about a .5 miles to Charlton Peak. After summitting Charlton I headed back down to the saddle, grabbed my pack and continued off trail for another .5 miles to Little Charlton Peak. I continued basically heading in the same direction but veering to the right as I descended Little Charlton until I made it back on trail at Dry Lake View Camp. I followed the trail just over a half mile up until it made a U turn. At that point I went straight up the slope, again off trail, to Jepson Peak and then on to Peak 11171. After summitting the two of them I continued another half mile or so to San Gorgonio. Then I headed back down but staying on the trail throughout my descent. This was a tiring 22.75 mile day with a total elevation gain of 5559 feet." — Philip-Yoho • Oct 26, 2019
"Peak #6 of the SoCal Six Pack of Peaks Challenge. It was a 4 peak kind of day. Started out at Momyer Creek Trailhead, and hiked up to Dollar Lake Saddle. From the saddle I summitted Charlton, Little Charlton and Jepson Peaks before meeting up with my group (who came up Vivian Creek) at the summit of San Gorgonio. My descent was via Vivian Creek." — Philip-Yoho • Jun 30, 2018
"Training and acclimatization hike for a Sierra trip. Hiked up the Forsee Creek Trail and camped at 10,600ft. Hit Charlton on the first day and Jepson, Dobbs, and San G. on day 2." — klotito • Aug 22, 2015
